Knightsbridge is a street and district in the City of Westminster, London notable for its expensive shops, including Harrods, and as a prime residential area with some of the highest property prices in London and the world. It is one of two international centres identified in the London Plan; the other is the West End.
The district was named after a crossing of the River Westbourne, which is now an underground river due to extensive building over. It is recorded that the citizens of London met Queen Matilda at the Knight's Bridge in 1141.
