Knights Ferry, California

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Knights Ferry, California is a town in Stanislaus County about 40 miles east of Modesto California on the Stanislaus river. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it was an important mining town during the gold rush. It is home to the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi at 330 feet in length.

Knights Ferry is the "put in" location for Class I-II rafting trips. Rafting most often occurs through the months of May through October. Water in the lower Stanislaus is discharged from the base of Goodwin Dam resulting in clear and cold water even in the warmest months of summer. An abundance of wildlife including deer, otters, beaver and eagles can be spotted during raft trips on the Stanislaus at Knights Ferry. Camping is also available in Knights Ferry.
