Knight Life (ISBN 0-441-01077-6), is a novel by Peter David. The book was first published in 1987 and a new, "special edition" of the book, with nearly 40% more content (65,000 words vs 95,000), was published by Ace Books in 2002.

[edit] Summary
In both versions of the story, King Arthur returns to the world in the modern age and prompty decides to run for "President of the Soviet Union of America!" After Merlin (who is now physically about the same as an eight-year-old, due to aging backwards), corrects Arthur on his history and geography, the former king decides instead to run for mayor of New York City.
During his rather unconventional campaign, Arthur is joined by either actual or reincarnated people from his past, including Percival, Morgan Le Fey, Modred and Guinevere.

The original version of the book sold decently, but wasn't a run-away best seller. During his efforts to bring the book to the big screen, Peter David grew more and more dissatisfied with what he considered to be an amateur novel. He was also concerned with how dated the story seemed, with anachronisms such as an office filled with clattering type writers and an almost non-existent Republican presence in New York City politics.

The book has been optioned for film on a few different occasions, but for various reasons has yet to reach the big screen. No word is available on current efforts.

Two sequels have been written for the book to date. They are One Knight Only and The Fall of Knight.
