Knark

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Knark is a rootkit for the Linux kernels 2.2 and 2.4. The word 'knark' means illegal drugs in Swedish and Norwegian slang. If a system has been compromised, the attacker can install knark to disguise his activities. A typical symptom of having knark installed is that if you type 'rootme /bin/sh' you get a root shell. In programming, 'knark' is sometimes used as a metasyntactic variable, like foo or bar.

The word 'knark' does not include legal medicinal drugs such as caffeine or penicillin, although "good knark" can be applied in slang something like the english term "good shit", and could be considered socially acceptable in about the same contexts.
