Kliph Scurlock

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kliph Scurlock (born June 16, 1973) is the drummer for the psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips.

Kliph is a native of Lawrence, Kansas. He played in many bands throughout his youth in Lawrence and Topeka.

On July 17, 1981, Kliph's mother Linda was killed in the Kansas City Hyatt Regency walkway collapse. She was playing in an all-female mariachi band called Mariachi Estrella when a large walkway collapsed, killing 114 others and wounding over 200.

In 1999, Kliph was taken on as a roadie for the Flaming Lips while they toured to support their seminal album The Soft Bulletin. He remained with them on their next tour while they served as Beck's backing band. Kliph was chosen to drum on that tour by default as Beck didn't show up to the auditions to make the decision. He then became the Flaming Lips' touring drummer as multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd had moved on to playing guitar and keyboards live.

Kliph acts as a liaison between the band and fans on The Flaming Lips' Message Board by daily answering questions and interacting with other members in the forum.
