Kliff Undersn is a character in the Guilty Gear fighting game series, having appeared in Guilty Gear: The Missing Link and the console versions of Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival.

[edit] Profile and History

When he was 6 years old, Kliff Undersn was saved from a gear attack by Frederick (aka Sol Badguy). An aging veteran and hero of the Crusades, he led the Sacred Order of Holy Knights for decades before turning it over to Ky Kiske. When the first tournament was organized, he joined in the fear that Justice could return, though he subsequently died of old age. He wields the massive sword Dragonslayer with just one hand. He was also the adoptive father of the boy who later became Testament. Due to his death at the end of Guilty Gear, Kliff only appeared in the "Plus" version of Guilty Gear X, but returned in most subsequent games as a secret character. Kliff is of Swiss nationality.

[edit] Gameplay

Kliff, although slow, is very powerful. His single strikes alone can do massive damage. His gameplay could be compared to Potemkin's, although unlike Potemkin, Kliff does have a forward dash and air dash. His forward+High Slash does massive damage, although after using this move as well as some others, he requires some time to recuperate, considering his frail old age. This loss of breath though can be countered in his forward+heavy slash move by jumping after the blade hits the ground, this can lead into a follow up air attack while the opponent is still reeling from the hit. This time, similar to Sol's dizzyness after his Dragon Install wears off, allows the opponent to move in for attack. His Overdrive animations transform him into his younger self. His Instant Kill requires the opponent to be fairly close, although not as close as some other characters (like May, Testament or I-No, for example). However, it is extremely easy for him to "dizzy" his opponent and execute the move while they are defenseless. For that and other reasons, Kliff's Guilty Gear XX incarnation is considered off-limits for serious competitive play.
