Active contributor to the Opera Project (and Wikipedia) from 2 November 2005 to the end of August 2006.
Helped revise the project style guidelines section, designed to provide information about opera titles, roles, houses, companies etc. Also a member of the Arts Project. Also worked on the updating of the List of important operas In company with other project members.
During September I was in Africa (Uganda - where I went up Mount Elgon - and Rwanda), and since October I have been in France (Annecy in the Haute-Savoie) so I am not able to contribute much at the moment - especially as my copies of Grove are stored away on the other side of the English Channel!
I hope to be fully active again in 2007!

Together with GuillaumeTell compiling The opera corpus, a list of more than 1400 works by over 400 composers (based on the list attached to the Opera Project Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera/Opera Work List). This is a road map for the development of opera coverage. We now have articles on all the composers listed and we are gradually writing up the opera title entries. Each month we focus on a designated composer and write articles about his or her operas.
With Viva Verdi and Buondelmonte compiling the List of important opera companies and the List of opera festivals.
Also assisting Meladina with his impressive series of Russian opera articles.

[edit] Background
I've had a connection with publishing, including print encyclopedias - as an editor, graphics editor, production manager. writer and photographer - for many years. I've been using and publishing on the internet, including websites, blogs etc. since the early 1990s.
My interest in opera goes back to my childhood. When I was living in Tokyo I had the opportunity of working for many of the world's leading opera companies when they visited Japan. That lead to writing reviews and then starting an international opera magazine website.
Half of my life I've been in Asia (Hong Kong, China and Japan) and half in Britain (Scotland and England). I speak Chinese and Japanese.
(I'm also a professional archaeologist - with several years field experience in China, Japan and Britain - but I'm not writing about archaeology here! Opera is contentious enough as it is!)
