The Kleindeutsch(e) Lösung (the small German solution) was an idea for the formation of a German state from the member states of the Deutscher Bund under the leadership of Prussia, excluding Austria from a unified Germany. This idea was already discussed during the revolution of 1848 and also held by such high officials as Otto von Bismarck.
