[edit] Biography
Klayton has been a part of many bands and side projects over the years, including Circle of Dust, Argyle Park, Angeldust, Klank, and Celldweller. His role in many of his earlier bands (such as Circle of Dust) was mixing/producing, along with some instrumentals. In the case of Klank however, he had no direct influence besides producing. With Celldweller, his latest project, he has moved into the "one-man band" style of music, comparable to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
One of the main reasons that he has been a part of so many bands is his desire to change the type of music he creates when he feels it to be necessary. His first main act, Circle of Dust. had a very distinct feeling of industrial mixed with heavy metal, though by its final album, it had a noticeably softer edge to it, and was signed onto a Christian music label, R.E.X. Music. His next project Argyle Park was a short-lived collaboration between himself, and his friend, who went under the stage name of 'Buka.' Argyle Park released one critically acclaimed self-titled album, before its members folded it. Angeldust, which followed, saw him paired up with the showman Criss Angel, and while the band did not last long (Angel has now released music under his own name), Klayton has remarked that he learned a lot about making a good live show. His latest band, Celldweller, is very easily distinguished from the rest by the many types of music he produces with it, which include mixes of death metal, trance, techno, and dance. The live show that Scott produces (with the help of additional band members) now includes more use of video and lighting in synch with the music.
In a statement on his myspace page, Klayton stated that Celldweller will come out with a new album in the summer of 2006, though a statement indicated that the earlier date could be overly optimistic, and in fact the date could be later in 2006, possibly even later than that.
[edit] Stage names
Originally Klayton was credited by his birth name, but starting with the re-recorded version of Circle of Dust's debut album, he began referring to himself as Klay Scott, and likewise following the release Celldweller's debut, he started referring to himself as Klayton. In addition he has also used several other stage names on his various projects, including Dred, Deathwish, and Celldweller. The name Klay was reportedly given to him by collaborator Criss Angel as a reference to Klayton's ability to mold sounds as a sculptor molds clay.
