Church of Kitee

Kitee (Kides in Swedish) is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 10,024 (2003) and covers an area of 1,141.75 km² of which 276.87 km² (nearly 25%) is water. The population density is 8.8 inhabitants per km².

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Famous people from Kitee are Tuomas Holopainen, Tarja Turunen and Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen, who are the original three members of the symphonic metal band Nightwish (Tarja Turunen has since left the group to pursue her solo career).
