[edit] History
The station was founded by the Essex Radio Group, who at the time also owned many local radio stations including Essex FM.
In 2000, the Group was purchased by the GWR Group, (now known as GCap Media following its merger with Capital Radio Group plc in May 2005). At this point in time the GWR group also acquired Galaxy 101 (Renamed to Vibe 101) from the Crysalis media group, using the Vibe brand to create a largely unsuccessful dance network.
Scottish Radio Holdings took both stations over in 2003, with GWR retaining the most profitable shows, including Vibe Nation and the Non stop vibe tagline.
In 2005 the EMAP group acquired SRH.
The station was rebranded as Kiss 105-108 on September 6th 2006, along with a simultaneous rebranding of sister station Vibe 101 and a relaunch of Kiss 100. All three new Kiss stations started to carry the new Kiss logo, and the core music genre was changed to focus more on Dance. Both Kiss 105-108 and Kiss 101 retained many shows presented by the DJs who previously presented under the Vibe brand, but now offer shows that are simulcast by one DJ across all 3 stations.
[edit] Audience figures
Vibe FM enjoyed respectable and stable audience figures in recent years, with the RAJAR results for Q4 2005 showing that the station reached in excess of 300,000 listeners every week. These same results also show that each week, Vibe FM's listeners tuned in for almost 8 hours on average. It is not currently known how the rebranding has affected listener numbers.
