From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kiryat Mattersdorf is a Haredi neighborbood of Jerusalem, located on the northern edge of the mountain plateau on which the central part of Jerusalem lies. It is named after Mattersburg (formerly Mattersdorf), a town in Austria with a rich Jewish history.

It is the location of the Torah Ore yeshiva, headed by Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg. There are also several large Haredi girls schools of the Beis Yaakov type. It is also the home of the Matnas Moshe, Rav Moshe Sacks, a notable Satmar authority in Jewish law and author of a commentary on the Torah, Shulchan Aruch, and Talmud by the same name.

Most inhabitants identify with the Litvish ('Lithuanian') style of Haredi Judaism. A large proportion are immigrants from western countries, especially the United States and United Kingdom.

It can be reached with Egged city buses 2, 7, 16, and 49A.
