Kira and the Kindred Spirits

Kira and the Kindred Spirits has become one of Denmark's major export products, impressing the international music industry with their unique impact and star quality.
Beautiful Kira Skov formed Kira and the Kindred Spirits in 2002 with the original drummer, Johan Lei Gellert. Since then there has been unstoppable progress for the band, who with their roots in the American guitar rock tradition have fascinated both Danish and international audiences with their passionate and untameable style.
The band recently attracted great attention at the music industry festivals South By Southwest 2006 (SXSW) and Canadian Music Week 2006, and back in January 2004, Kira and the Kindred Spirits were among the major attractions at the Midem international music industry trade fair in Cannes.
Kira and the Kindred Spirits released their debut album ’Happiness Saves Lives’ to critical acclaim in 2002. The album highlighted Kira's intense voice and her unique talent for giving emotional expression to life's ups and downs. In 2005 came the follow-up, ’This Is Not An Exit’, followed most recently by an album named after the band, ’Kira and the Kindred Spirits’, in April 2006.
With her outstanding voice and charisma, Kira is the dominant figure in the Kindred Spirits, and it is also her personality and story which have largely defined the band's outward face. She was something of a problem child, and was sent by her parents to family members in California. The young Kira fled from this environment, however, and ended up in London at the tender age of 17. Here she formed the band Butterfly Species together with the guitarist Pink, as well as Orson Wajid and the front man from Dear, Laust Sonne.
Kira then moved back to Denmark, where she formed Kira and the Kindred Spirits with drummer Johan Lei Gellert. The two were later joined by Orson Wajid (Butterfly Species) and Rune Kjeldsen (Dear, Sort Sol). John Lei Gellert was later replaced on drums by Jesper Lind, and Orsan Wajid was replaced by Nicolai Munch-Hansen.
