"King Scoopa Koopa" is the sixth episode of the Super Mario World cartoon.

[edit] Synopsis

When the Mario Bros. and Princess Peach sit down to a lunch of "rabbit food" (as Mario calls it), they notice that Yoshi is missing and go outside to look for him. They find him at a fast food stand that Bowser is running, accompanied by some Rexes and Reznors for chefs. Yoshi places an order, but cannot pay for it; Mario does just that, even after his objection about it costing 18 Coins (Koopa calls it "inflation").

The Mario Bros. and Yoshi become addicted to the junk food Bowser's restaurant is serving, although Mario, not liking eggs, doesn't eat the Egg Scoopa Koopa sandwiches, which Luigi and Yoshi continually narf down. Peach becomes disgusted with their eating habits and puts them on a diet, locking them in the Dome Castle. Some time later, Mario calls her to open the door, and she returns to discover that Luigi and Yoshi are missing - according to Mario, they grew wings, flew outside, and took their treasure chest with them.

Over at Bowser's stand, he watches with glee as his customers, who have now begun mutating into "Chickadactyls" (prehistoric birds from which the eggs in his sandwiches come from) as a result of the Scoopa Sauce in the Egg Scoopa Koopas, pay for more of his food, and starts planning to sell them as fried chicken at another stand later. Just then, Mario and Peach stumble onto his operation, and he sends his employees and several mutated cavepeople after them. The pair manages to escape by ducking into the underwater level of the Star Road.

Afterwards, they end up in an underground chasm that happens to be right under the kitchen of Bowser's restaurant (they figure that because trash from said kitchen is coming from a nearby warp pipe). Mario finds a Cape Feather to power himself up, and they then bust into the kitchen and attack Koopa's chefs, forcing the Koopa King to escape with his newly-earned money. Peach then sets his Chickadactyls free, and Mario closes down the fast food stand by destroying it with his cape.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • This episode could be seen as social commentary on fast food franchises and obesity in the United States.
  • Since the Super Mario World game was not actually set in the Stone Age, there are no such enemies as Chickadactyls.
  • It is unknown whether or not Bowser's chefs actually were Rexes, as they came in different colors. The Rexes in "Send in the Clown" (and the game) were all blue.
  • Interesting to note is that Mario and Princess Peach do not seem concerned about Bowser having made off with the cavepeoples' money. Considering that he was actually "earning an honest buck for a change", perhaps it is safe to say that he can keep it since he actually earned it legally. Also interesting is how they were not concerned about the treasure chest they lost when Luigi and Yoshi used it to feed their fast food addiction.
  • After destroying Bowser's restaurant, Mario orders everybody to "go home and eat some vegetables - Dr. Mario's orders!" Referring to himself as a doctor is apparently a reference to Dr. Mario.
  • Due to the use of a fried egg as an ingredient for Egg Scoopa Koopas, the food may actually be classified as a breakfast sandwich rather than burger relatives.
  • Mario was being rather rude to Bowser stating that his sandwiches were "highway robbery": the reason for the high price was because Yoshi ordered a large amount of food.
  • Apparently, when Bowser is telling his employees to work faster, he is really introducing food items to the viewers rather than telling his employees to hurry up.
  • Though Luigi should be imitating a Chickadactyl, when he says, "Rahht, Luigi hungry!", he is actually imitating a parrot.
  • Bowser's head keeps switching positions when he says "I call it inflation...in more ways than one."
  • This episode shows that Bowser is a supporter of capitalism.
  • This is the only appearance of the Super Mushroom in the Mario cartoons.
  • When you see the roulette block, the first time you see the Fire Flower, there's no ? Block with the flower on top. In the next shot, there is one! If that's not enough, there's no Star in it. Also, the block is yellow instead of clear, and it turns brown when it gets hit! (The latter two aren't actually errors, since this is the only appearance of the Roulette Block.)
  • When Mario is sleeping on the empty food bags, there is a plant in the nearby window. When Mario wakes up to say "Diet!?" we don't see the plant at all in the window!
  • When you first see the green dinosaur working for King Koopa, his hat is white with a blue pinstripe. When the caveman leaves and Yoshi is next in line, the blue pinstripe isn't there!
  • When the roulette block is first shown, two blocks in the upper left hand corner of the screen are yellow. When Mario jumps up to hit it, those two yellow blocks are now brown!
  • When Cape Mario says "This joint is hereby closed by order of the health inspector," Yoshi appears not a chickadactyl, then he is a chickadactyl in the next shot!
  • When King Koopa has the dream of the fried chickendactyl stand, the yellow dinosaur pays the green employee, but the food gets served by an orange dinosaur that was never seen and the pink dinosaur gets the food! But, wasn't the pink dinosaur behind the yellow one and didn't pay?
  • When the Star Road is shown, the small mountain in the center that is the entrance to the Special World isn't there! It wasn't like this in Send in the Clown!
  • When Mario says to Princess "We need a plan, quick!" Mario's mouth isn't moving when he says the last word!
  • When the Scoopa Sauce is squirted on the egg sandwich, the sauce either disappears, which reveals the yolk, or it just gets a lighter shade of brown!
