Kinallen

Kinallen is a small village in County Down, Northern Ireland, near Dromore (approximately 4 miles) and Dromara (approximately 2 miles). It lies within the Lisburn City Council area. The main thoroughfare is a crossroads, between: Skeagh Road (to Dromore), Dromara Road, Katesbridge Road and the Waringsford Road. The population was 557 people in the 2001 Census, increased from about 300 in 1991.

Kinallen is classified as a small village or hamlet by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with population between 500 and 1,000 people). On Census day (29 April 2001) there were 557 people living in Kinallen. Of these:

  • 29.5% were aged under 16 years and 7.9% were aged 60 and over
  • 50.6% of the population were male and 49.4% were female
  • 6.3% were from a Catholic background and 89.2% were from a Protestant background
  • 1.3% of people aged 16-74 were unemployed.
