Kimbolton Airfield

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kimbolton Airfield, located at Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire, was the base of the 379th Bomb Group, a B-17 unit, during World War II.

In 1959 it was transformed into a Kart Racing track. The track is operated by the Hunts Kart Racing Club.

The track has seen several revisions over the years. One of its earliest extensions used the land owners landing strip as part of the track. This forced the land owner to land his plane on the main start and finish straight. During the 1980’s it was common for races to be red flagged (stopped) in order for the track to be cleared, so the land owners plane could land.

The track was extended drastically in 1990, and the new layout also made way for a separate landing strip for the land owner.
