Kim Ji-Woon, born in 1964, is a Korean film director with a strong sense of visual design. He started out directing theatre but has worked with increasing levels of success in cinema, gathering acclaim in recent years for the strong stories, accomplished acting and detailed sense of visual design present within his films. Kim Ji-Woon also pays careful attention to the release of his films on DVD and goes to greater than usual length to package them with extensive documentary materials and revealing commentary tracks. General critical consensus in the West suggests that Ji-Woon is growing substantially both as a director and a visual stylist – his two most recent films A Tale of Two Sisters and A Bittersweet Life each achieved substantial critical and commercial success.
