Killingholme is an area of Lincolnshire, comprising the villages of North Killingholme and South Killingholme. It is the site of a large ConocoPhillips oil refinery, opened in 1969, and an LPG storage facility (180 metres underground).[[1]]. It is also a fast expanding port, handling RORO ferries from Belgium and Hoek van Holland, as well as car imports from mainland Europe and Korea. It was formerly the home of RAF 550 Squadron, which flew Lancaster bombers from North Killingholme airbase from early 1944 to October 1945. RAF 550 Squadron is credited with opening the D-day attack on 5th June, 1944 [[2]]
