As far as DYK goes, two things come to mind first of all:

  • Similarly to Kiev tram being the first, this was the first funicular in the RU Empire
  • Following the transfer of the capital, the funicular was supposed to be demolished in order to satisfy the administrative building construction and expansions plans as well the hemongous Lenin monument. Neither was implemented because the war started. So, in a way, it was "saved" by a war.

I yandexed the RU L sites to get links readable to more people (my apologies to those who can read in Ukrainian but not in English) but more info in UA L can be easily yandexed. BTW, if you use Yandex rather then google, it will automatically included results of the search term in different cases, genders and declensions. I'm not sure that the Kiev funicular was the first funicular in the RU Empire. The website [1] states that the Nizhniy Novgorod funicular was built on the 15th of July, 1896, and it also states [2] that the Tbilisi funicular was opened near 1905, (I think it was opened after the Kiev funicular). Anyway the Kiev funicular probably was the second in the RU empire, which might be used for DYK, if we should decide to nominate it. Thanks, --DDima 01:32, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
