Kid Confucius are a nine-piece Australian soul and hip hop band from Sydney, Australia. They formed in 2001 and have since played over 200 live shows and in 2005 released one self-titled album and three singles,Last Straw, Words and Skintight. The band is currently recording a follow-up album.
The band have gained a loyal live following playing shows in various Sydney venues, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Byron Bay, Newcastle, Wollongong and other regional areas. They have played at Splendour in the Grass Festival and Newtown Festival. At Easter 2006, the band will play at the inaugural The Great Escape festival in Sydney.
After years of constant gigging, March 2005 saw the release of Kid Confucius' debut album. An eclectic mix of old school funk and soul combined with the more modern sounds of hip hop, nu soul and RnB gave the album a distinct flavour, earning plaudits from Rolling Stone Magazine, among others, who declared it to be "one of the best local releases" of the year.
In early 2006 Kid Confucius began recording an as yet unnamed sophomore album at Electric Avenue Studios in Sydney. So far, the new album has yielded the single "Last Straw", and is slated for release in late 2006 / early 2007.

Kid confucius draws an eclectic mix of old soul like Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Sly & The Family Stone, pop from The Beatles to the Neptunes, as well as hip hop and nu soul groups such as The Roots, D'Angelo, Mos Def and De La Soul.
