Kid (Mario)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kid is a golfer from the video games Mario Golf series. He has appeared in Mario Golf for the Game Boy Color and Mario Golf: Advance Tour for the Game Boy Advance. He appears to be based off a younger version of Tiger Woods, although that is mere speculation.

[edit] Game Appearances
Kid has appeared as a playable character in two games: Mario Golf for the Game Boy Color and 'Mario Golf: Advance Tour for the Game Boy Advance. Kid can also be transferred from the Game Boy Color version to its Nintendo 64 counterpart. His role changes slightly between the games. Kid is also an unlockable character in Mobile Golf, a GBC game that was released in Japan, very similar to the Mario Golf GBC version.
[edit] Mario Golf
Kid was one of four characters that the player could choose and 'create' however they pleased. According to the instruction manual, Kid is 10 years old and has been playing golf since he could walk. (This adds further speculation to the parallels with Tiger Woods; Woods started golfing at age three.) While it is up to the player to decide how Kid's golf style is through leveling up in an RPG style Story Mode, his starting stats are as follows:
- Drive: 202 yards
- Height: Very low
- Shot: Draws slightly
- Meet Area: Large
- Control: Good
Kid is part of the Marion Clubhouse and must take part in the tournaments across all the different clubs in order to become the Grand Champion. Once Kid becomes the Grand Champion, he will finally have the honor of meeting Mario, the legendary golfer, and compete in one final tournament against him.
[edit] Mario Golf: Advance Tour
Kid became the Grand Champion and gained the status of a legendary golfer from his amazing skills. However, a career-crippling injury forced him to go into retirement. Gene Yuss, the former Grand Champion, was able to take the title again.
However, while Kid can no longer golf, his passion for the sport never died, and now he teaches the sport of golf to four promising young students (two of which, Neil and Ella, are playable and are the main characters of the story). When the group arrives at the Marion Clubhouse for further teaching, a reunion with the Club Manager somehow gives Kid the will to golf again, despite his aforementioned injury. In no time at all, Kid becomes the Grand Champion again.
Kid is so well admired by golfers in the game that he is constantly talked about through different characters. In fact, the club he used in the Game Boy Color version of Mario Golf is placed next to Mario's in the Marion Club Manager's Office.
Once the player becomes the new Grand Champion, he or she can then battle Kid in a Singles Match Game or a Doubles Match Game against him and Gene Yuss. If the player wins the Singles Match Game, Kid will then become playable in Quick Game and Multiplayer modes.
Kid's stats are as follows:
- Drive: 270 Yards
- Height: Balanced
- Shot: A slight draw
- Impact: Narrow
- Control: Slightly poor
- Spin: Strong
While Kid's age is not stated in the game, he is now 15-years old. It is a safe assumption that Kid is an adult now due to his appearance and profession. Since Kid has been to Mario's world (The Mushroom Kingdom), he is the only one other than the player who can see the victory trophy that the player wins if he or she defeats Mario. While Kid's dialogue never states that he is aware of the player's victory, it is assumed that he knows about it. This is due to the fact that, after defeating Mario, the player is rewarded with a special ticket made for making one of two very special sets of golf clubs to enhance the player's gameplay.
