Kickapoo (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kickapoo is the first song on comedy rock band Tenacious D's 2006 film Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny, as well as the movie's soundtrack album.
The song, named after Jack Black's fictional hometown of Kickapoo, Missouri (he is really from California) tells the story of a young JB running away from home, and a very strict religious Christian father (again, fictional, as Jack Black was born and raised Jewish) to become a rock star. Meat Loaf appears in the movie and song as Black's father, and Ronnie James Dio appears as himself, after JB prays to a poster of him on the wall of his bedroom door.
In live performances of Kickapoo, bandmate Kyle Gass performs Meat Loaf's lines and Jack Black sings the words of Dio, as if he is quoting him.
Kickapoo was performed by Tenacious D on the December 2, 2006 episode of Saturday Night Live. During this performance, they replaced the word "fuck" with the word "freak", they also changed "cock" to "rock", ala the clean version of the album.
