Kickamuit River
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kickamuit River is a short river (4 miles) in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Its name has a variety of spellings, and is said to mean back river in the Narragansett dialect.
The river's source is in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, and flows into the Warren Reservoir in Swansea which drains approximately 2,300 acres. From there it flows generally southeast between Bristol and Warren, Rhode Island to empty into Mt. Hope Bay and thence Narragansett Bay. The Kickamuit Reservoir dam forms the boundary between fresh and salt water.
As of 2002 the Environmental Protection Agency judged it too polluted for recreation. It is also closed to shellfishing.
