‘Khartoum International Community School provides an academically challenging, globally relevant and well-balanced educational programme. In the pursuit of excellence, students will be inspired to be productive and principled world citizens with the skills and commitment to think creatively, reason critically, communicate effectively and understand the value of lifelong learning. KICS encourages in its student body a strong sense of personal identity, responsibility and compassion, where home and school unite to realize each student’s full potential'.

KICS is a relatively new school, building on the foundations of an infant school that was established in 1980. In 2003 the decision was taken to expand the school to cover 3-18 age range by 2009. In August 2005 the school opened a state of the art new campus and expanded up to UK Year 10 (US Grade 9), i.e.14/15 year olds, and is expanding one year at a time with the first full IB Diploma graduates leaving the school in May 2009. The new campus provides up to date and spacious classrooms, libraries, IT suites, an outdoor amphitheatre and a full range of sports facilities including an indoor gymnasium, 25m pool, playing field, three tennis courts, a Dance Studio, Fitness Suite, basketball and volleyball courts. Many of these facilities are part of 'Planet KICS', an after school sports & leisure membership club which will open its doors for the first time to members of the KICS community in late 2007. Without question, KICS is the preeminent school in Khartoum and the first choice for families seeking a high quality international education for their children.

The 2006/7 academic year saw KICS in its authorization phase as a PYP school and is in the ongoing process of implementing the MYP along with IGCSE. The first IGCSE examinations take place in May 2007 with the first IB Diploma examinations scheduled for May 2009.

Visit the school website at http://www.kics.sd for photos and information of school events and developments.

Currently the student body is made up of around 320 children aged between 3 and 15 and the staff roll consists of 66 Faculty and Teaching Assistants. The students represent over 20 different nationalities and the staff hail from as far afield as the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, North America, Thailand, Romania and Spain. Sudanese are well represented amongst the staff and the student body. The 2007/8 academic year will see the numbers expand to approximately 400 and from then it is anticipated that there will be a steady increase. The school’s maximum capacity will be two-form entry from Nursery to Year 13, with general class sizes near to but not exceeding 20. This would give the school a maximum capacity of just over 500 pupils.

DAL GROUP AND KICS

This Group is a family owned business with a strong personal interest in creating and supporting an independent international school offering a broad and academically strong education. They became interested in the international curriculum offered by the IBO and committed to fully supporting the school by building a first rate campus and equipping it with the best possible resources and facilities. KICS is a non-profit making subsidiary of DAL Group.
