KFDM-TV is the CBS affiliate in the Beaumont / Port Arthur, Texas market. Licensed to Beaumont, it operates a digital subchannel carrying CW, which is also available on channel 10 on most cable systems in the area.

[edit] History

KFDM was started by Magnolia Petroleum Company as KFDM radio. It was created to provide entertainment and information for the refinery workers. It was founded in 1955 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005.

The station's call letters stand for the slogan for the oil company's brand of gasoline: "Kall For Dependable Magdalene". The fact that the calls resemble its current owner, Freedom Communications, is merely a coincidence.

KFDM was awarded in 2005 by the Texas chapter of the Associated Press for their coverage of Hurricane Rita.
