KFAB "Outlaw Country" is one of two country music radio stations based in Fargo, North Dakota owned by Clear Channel Communications, with the other one being KDAM "The Wolf". Outlaw Country concentrates on a classic country format, while The Wolf concentrates on hit country music. The station is licensed by the FCC to Kindred, North Dakota though most of its listener audience is in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The station also broadcasts NASCAR races.
Outlaw Country formerly had a short-lived Adult Hits (also known as "Jack") format with the "My FM" monkier, playing hits from all music genres from the past four decades. The format only lasted five months from May to October in 2005 before reverting back as "Outlaw Country".
It has been announced on September 28, 2006 that KFAB-FM and the other Clear Channel stations in Fargo are being sold to James Ingstad, who lives in Fargo. Ingstad owned the stations and sold them in 2000, though KDAM didn't sign on until 2002. Ingstad will then exchange KFAB-FM to Northwestern College, which also owns Christian radio stations KFNW-FM 97.9 and KFNW AM 1200 in Fargo, in exchange for use of KFNW-FM's transmitter for rental use for WDAY-FM 93.7. Clear Channel also owns KFGO 790 (News/Talk), KVOX 1280 (Sports), WDAY 93.7 (Top 40), KRVI 95.1 (Adult Album Alternative), KKBX 101.9 (Classic Rock), and KDAM 104.7 (Country) in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
