Key West, Iowa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Key West, Iowa is a small unincorporated village located south of Dubuque, Iowa. It is part of the Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Parts of the area have been annexed by the city of Dubuque, including the Dubuque Technology Park to the east.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Key West is located within Key West. Mount Olivet Cemetery - one of two main Catholic cemeteries in the Dubuque area - is also located within the village.

You will find Key West coming south from downtown Dubuque, or coming north from Bellevue and Clinton. There is a major "shortcut" to the Dubuque commercial area, which excludes downtown and cuts almost over to Asbury.

The town was named as an ill-fated attempt to copy the flourishing and much coveted town in the famous Florida Keys with the same name. Unfortunately, the desired tourism never materialized.

However, the city is located southwest of Dubuque, which is called the "Key City", and thus could be in reference to the much larger city.
