Kevin McKenna (born January 21, 1980 in Calgary) is an Canadian professional football (soccer) player with Energie Cottbus in the German Bundesliga. A 6'2, 12st. defender who also plays at times as a midfielder or forward, McKenna has scored 7 times in 26 appearances for the Canadian national team and currently is Canada's captain.
A University of Calgary player as an amateur, McKenna played three seasons (the first two in the reserves) with German Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus. He became the first Canadian to play in the German First Bundesliga when Energie won promotion to the top league in 2000.
McKenna moved to Scottish Premier League team Hearts in 2001 on loan and played 8 games. After a £300,000 transfer, he was the club's second leading scorer in 2001-02 with 9 goals in 35 games. As a mostly reserve striker in 2002-03, McKenna scored 6 times in 41 matches. In 38 games in 2003-04, he scored 5 goals for the 'Jam Tarts'. In 2005, after falling out of favour at Hearts, he returned to Cottbus. He was recently elected as the new captain of Energie Cottbus after the departure of former captain Gregg Berhalter.
