Kevin McCourt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kevin McCourt (born 1964) is a Scottish interdisciplinary artist. He was born in Glasgow and lives and works in London and Madrid.
McCourt is director of the XYZ010 Project, an ongoing international and cross-cultural exploration of creative processes. XYZ010 specifically gathers evidence of metaphorical visualisations in scientific research. Further collaborative research, using creative processes more commonly associated with art practice, explores links between this evidence, contemporary art debates and the wider social context. Resulting propositions are presented in the form of installations, as web pages or as linear video and film works.
McCourt's internationally exhibited works include: Barrio Mestizo / Barrio Castizo, which focuses on the recent phenomenon of mass immigration to Madrid; Padres Maridos Hijos / Fathers Husbands Sons (in collaboration with graphic designer Gabriel Martínez), a documentary portrait of abused women, combining image, manipulated sound (recorded from interviews) and typography; Deadwood (War), a visual poem (video) which plays with the possible multiple meanings of the word "deadwood" in English and Conversation (between friends), a series of works in a wide variety of media, including drawing, soundworks, installation and performance, which address themes related to communication within and across cultures.
He has taught in university faculties / art schools and given conferences in Britain, Spain, Japan, Mexico and Germany.
