[edit] Howdy
Howdy — hope you're having a good Tuesday. I just wanted to drop off a quick note to welcome you to Wikipedia, and to thank you for creating an account and for your recent contributions to the project.
If you haven't checked them out yet, you might want to check out some of the things your new account lets you do, such as customization (more) and your watchlist (more).
There are a few things you probably want to keep in mind as you traverse Wikipedia:
- Please write with a neutral point of view. This is perhaps the most important tenet of Wikipedia — write neutrally, and don't interject your opinion into articles.
- Please assume that people's actions are well-meant, unless they've given you ample cause to believe otherwise. On Wikipedia, this is referred to as "assuming good faith."
- If you get into disagreements with others, please try to work it out civilly and without personal attacks. If worse comes to worse, Wikipedia has methods for resolving disagreements, but it is best if the parties can work out by themselves ... and it reflects best on you, too.
- Please respect others' copyrights — that means it's not kosher to just cut and paste from webpages.
- If you need somewhere to goof around with things, try the Sandbox — please don't edit articles just to test them. But when you feel ready to, you don't need to hesitantly ask permission — if you think you've got a solid contribution to make, we encourage you to be bold.
- Please sign any message you leave on a talk page (not your contributions to an article, but any personal messages you might leave on an article's talk page or a person's talk page) with four tildes. This will sign your name. Four tildes look like this: ~~~~
More rules of the road can be found here, and a full list of policies can be found here.
If you'd like to learn more about Wikipedia, there are a few good places to start. Check out the welcome to newcomers, the introduction, and the tutorial.
If I can be of any help, please feel free to drop a line on my talk page by clicking below (if you do so, though, be sure to add my talk page to your brand-new watchlist to make it easier for you to check back there for my response). But since I'm not always available, you may get a quicker response by typing {{helpme}} on this page, and an experienced Wikipedian will shortly come around to answer any questions you may have.
Thanks ... and again, welcome! — Mike
[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Jim LaMarca chimaira.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Jim LaMarca chimaira.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] License tagging for Image:Jesper Stromblad.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Jesper Stromblad.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Eric Clapton Image
Hi KerryKing666, I recently saw your change of the clapton image from an earlier picture to one of his modern day pictures, do you think it would be possible for me to revert the change. Their was a consensus discussion on the talk page and a unanimous agreement that an older picture of clapton needed to be found to use instead of using a newer one of the tsunami concert. If you feel that this would be a problem please tell me and contribute to the picture discussion on the talk page so we can better a better community opinion. Thanks again - Patman2648 07:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ditto Jack Bruce. The more recent picture is still being included on the page next to the relevant information, so could we please leave the early picture in the infobox where it's next to the early information? Thanks. MightyMoose22 >Abort, Retry, Fail?_ 14:00, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- I opened a discussion re:Jack Bruce on the articles discussion page. Feel free to express an opinion there before altering article images away from editor concensus. 156.34.142.158 15:16, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Charlie Watts.jpg)
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Charlie Watts.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 15:38, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] On M Shadows image
Please don't use that image. It has a visible, ugly copyright thing on it, and we try not to use images like that on wikipedia. Note that I already brought this up on the talk page. --Improv 18:51, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Layne Staley picture
Please stop adding the picture of Staley to his article. It does not meet the specific Wikipedia guidelines about the use of copyrighted pictures:
"It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots for identification and critical commentary on the music video in question."
Are we making critical commentary about Unplugged? We cannot use this picture solely to identify Staley. It's a clear violation of fair use guidelines. -- ChrisB 22:30, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] PLEASE read Wikipedia Fair Use Policy
You keep adding video screenshots to articles related to the subject...but screenshots can only be used in articles about the video source itself. You're putting a lot of work into uploading images of limited use and all your edits just keep getting rv'd because you aren't following the rules. Also, you keep changing lead images in articles without posting on the article talk pages to see if the regular editors are in agreement on the changes you wish to make. Which is bad protocol and....like the Fair Use issue...will simply see all your hard work be for nothing as your edits will likely be deleted. Be bold, but also try to work with concensus too or else you'll get blacklisted and your edits will all be scrutinized good or bad. Just a few friendly words of advise to help you. Read WP:FU it'll help you in the future. 142.166.244.19 01:26, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Yet another warning about Fair Use images
You've already been given several warnings before. Read Wikipedia Policy WP:FU. Video screen captures cannot be used in articles that are not specific to the video in which the screen capture was taken. The Vid cap that you keep putting in the Ozzy Osbourne article is NOT Fair Use and cannot be used there. If you continue to keep rv'ing the article it can be seen as vandalism and a Wikipedia Administrator will be notified which could result in a block. Read all of the Wikipedia policies before you try to edit anymore. They are easy to read policies and you will benefit from reading them.
