Kerry Prendergast

Kerry Prendergast has served as the Mayor of Wellington since 2001.
Before entering politics, Prendergast worked as a midwife and a nurse. She gained election to the Tawa Borough Council (now integrated into Wellington city) in 1986, and joined the Wellington City Council in 1989. In 1995, she became Deputy Mayor under Mark Blumsky.
She became Mayor in the 2001 local-body election, and in October 2004 gained re-election for a second term.
