Keris Mas

Kamaludin Muhamad (born 10th June 1922, Bentong, Pahang; died 9th March 1992), also known as Keris Mas, is a short story writer and novelist from Malaysia, who was awarded the title of National Laureate (Sasterawan Negara Malaysia) in 1981.

He received his education in the Benton Malay school, the Tawalih School in Sumatra, the Muallimin Al-Islamiah College, Sumatera and the Pitman College in Singapore.

Keris Mas is the author of over 60 short stories. His first short story was titled The Last Will and Testament of a Nobleman (Wasiat Orang Bangsawan), published in the magazine Malaysia Torch (Suluh Malaya) in 1946. His works have also appeared in the short story anthologies Rise and Shine (Mekar dan Segar) (1959), Two Eras (Dua Zaman), Die-off (Patah Tumbuh) (1963), and Discord (Pertentangan) (1968).

He is also the author of four novels - Hero of the Malaysian Jungle (Pahlawan Rimba Malaya) (1946), This Holy Grave (Korban Kesuciannya) (1949), The Merchant of Kuala Lumpur (Saudagar Besar Dari Kuala Lumpur) (1983) and The Jungle of Hope (Rimba Harapan) (1983).
