Keratea (Greek: Κερατέα) is a municipality of the Greek prefecture of Attica. Keratea is linked with a 4-lane highway (GR-91 linking Glyka Nera and Sounio. Keratea is located approximately 41 km SE of Athens, S of the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport and the Attiki Odos (numbers 6 and 62), NW of Cape Sounio and south of the Hymettus Ring.
Keratea is founded between 700 and 500 BC according to ancient resources.
The mountains dominates the southern and the northern parts of the municipality, one of them is being Panion to the south consisting of rocks and grasslands, forests lies in the valley areas and in the middle is a valley that is connected with Mesogeia. Businesses are the most popular industry in Palaia Fokaia after shifting from rural in the 1960s and the 1970s and agriculture was then the main industry of Keratea. Later, Keratea became part of the Athens Metropolitan Area. Suburban housing arrived in the 1970s and the 1980s and rarely continues to this day. A part of the population are still rural. In the 1980s a bypass constructed 500 m north of Keratea and is partially situated on an abandoned rail linking Lavrio and Kifissia and opened few years later with 2 additional lanes with traffic lights.
Other features includes a football/soccer field hundreds of metres west and a hydrogen factory in Keratea.
The rainfalls of November 24, 2005 ravaged the western portions of the municipality but the rainfall did not flooded the community.
