Talk:Ken Maycock

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ken Maycock is the chief living exponent of the Euston Road School of British art, typified by William Coldstream, one of Maycock's teacher's at the Slade School of Art. Although Maycock is not internationally famous, his work is of indisputable historical significance within the context of British painting. He is certainly worthy of being documented on Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dontbecruel (talkcontribs).

[edit] ken maycock

I studied painting at Massachusetts College of Art in the 90's. I recall viewing Ken Maycock's oil paintings in a color theory class at the time. I was quite inspired by his use of color and form and thus believe this makes him a significantly accomplished and important British painter. I see that this article is up for deletion, which I do NOT agree with.

If you can prove his notability, the deletion template can be removed. Until then, it should stay there. You have five days of time, so don't worry :) (please take this as kind as possible, I'm really tired) -Missmarple 22:59, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
The user was not doing anything wrong by removing the {PROD} tag. Anyone can do so, for any reason. There is no requirement that the remover "prove" to the tagger's satisfaction that the subject is notable enough (or that whatever reason was offered up is invalid). Indeed, the guidelines say that once the tag has been removed, it should not be put back, but that the article should be sent to AfD instead if you still want it deleted. In this case, I'm reluctant to get involved, since the article will almost certainly not survive AfD unless some major offline sources testifying to his notability can be produced. (He fails the Google test, which is as far as most people are going to look.) However, the user shouldn't be left with the misimpression that he is violating some rule, when in fact he acted within his rights. --Groggy Dice 16:21, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
You may remove this message if you improve the article, or if you otherwise object to deletion of the article for any reason.' The article shouldn't be removed in the first place anyway. --Missmarple 21:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Exactly, you can remove the tag if you "object to deletion of the article for any reason." You do not have to "improve the article" AND "object to deletion of the article," it says OR. Someone who thinks the article is just fine the way it is can remove the tag without being obligated to do anything else. See WP:PROD#Conflicts. The reason I'm not being a stickler by removing the tag for being a re-{PROD} is that I don't think this article could pass AfD anyway. --Groggy Dice 01:27, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
I see, you're absolutely right. Thanks. --Missmarple 14:32, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
