Kentucky Christian University (KCU) is a comprehensive baccalaureate level Christian university located in Grayson, Kentucky. It was founded on December 1, 1919, as Christian Normal Institute, by J. W. Lusby and J. O. Snodgrass. As a "normal school" its programs included a high school, a junior college, and a training program for public school teachers. During the early 1920s its emphasis shifted to educating students for the Christian ministry. Today, U.S. News and World Report recognizes KCU as one of the Top 50 comprehensive baccalaureate level universities in the South. Degree programs are offered in seven schools within the University: the School of Art and Science, the Sack School of Bible and Ministry, the School of Business, the Keeran School of Education, the School of Music, the School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work and Human Services.

KCU is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is authorized to award bachelors and masters degrees. All programs requiring professional licensure (i.e. Nursing, Social Work, and Teacher Education) are professionally accredited.

KCU offers quality education in a Christian environment where biblical values provide a foundation for every curricular program. Twice weekly chapel services are an important part of the KCU experience and contribute to a strong sense of community on campus. The University is also well known for the strength of its music and athletic programs (men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, woman's volleyball.) The University Concert Choir has produced several ablums and performs nationally and internationally

[edit] Religious affiliation

KCU is historically affiliated with the non-deniminational fellowship of independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. These congregations have no creed, but appeal to the Bible only in matters pertaining to faith and godliness. Their quest is to unite the Christians in all the sects based on a return to the simple teachings of Jesus and His apostles.

[edit] Cost and Comparision

KCU’s per tuition hour cost is 390 dollars a credit hour. This is relatively high compared to similar schools such as Ozark Christian College (225 per credit hour) and Johnson Bible college (197 per credit hour) which offer roughly equivalent degrees in teaching, ministry, and music. KCU's largest single program is their nursing degree.

[edit] Future Football Program

It has been decided that KCU will be starting a football program in addition to their many athletic sports. They are slated to begin play in 2007 with a schedule consisting of up to 7 or 8 games. It could be as little as 5. There are reports that recruiting will take place in Southern Ohio, Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. Only five names have been released in relation to possible recruits which are: Adam Westbrook, former Wide Receiver at Sheldon Clark High School, David Peters, former offensive/defensive lineman at Cabell County High School, Johnny Campbell, former fullback/linebacker at South Floyd High School, DeMarre Williams, former halfback/secondary defenseman at Hazard High School and lastly Chris Terry, former standout defensive lineman at Paintsville High School.

[edit] Notable alumni

Several Contemporary Christian Music groups have come from KCU, including Audio Adrenaline, and Bleach.
