Kenton Bank Foot

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kenton Bank Foot is a suburb of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The Bank Foot metro station (opened 1981) was the terminus of the Tyne and Wear Metro Green line before the extension to Newcastle Airport opened in 1991. The outbound platform on the south side is the original single platform; at the time, the Metro ended on a single track that became a twin track only after it crossed the bridge to the east of the station. For the first few years of the Metro, it shared the line with occasional British Rail freight trains running to the ICI plant at Callerton. The second, inbound platform was added with the Airport extension.
