Kelvin Grove State College

Kelvin Grove State College <KGSC> (formerly known as Kelvin Grove State High School and Kelvin Grove State School), is one of the largest government educational institutions in the State of Queensland and one of the largest in the Commonwealth of Australia. The school's motto is the 'Pursuit of Excellence through Learning'. The motto that appears on the school emblem was taken from the Primary schools motto - 'With all thy might'. The old High school motto that appears on the old emblem was 'Scientia ad Sidera' which is still apart of the College song.

In 2002, under the Queensland Premier Peter Beattie's Smart State initiative Kelvin Grove State High School and Kelvin Grove State School amalgamated under the new banner of Kelvin Grove State College. The name was voted upon by students, staff and administration in 2001 from a selection of choices. Thus, the school became a P-12 (prep to year twelve) school for state enrolments.
The 2002 amalgamation divided the school administration into 3 sub schools. 'The Junior School' catering for grades prep to 5 , 'The Middle School' catering for grades 6 to 9 and 'The Senior School' catering for grades 10 to 12. A new set of education principals called "New Basics" was also introduced into the curriculum for the junior and middle schools.

[edit] Schools of Excellence
The college has six schools of excellence, which students can choose to extend their learning choices in a particular field. They are:
- Aviation (10-12)
- Dance (10-12)
- Golf (8-12)
- Music (10 - 12)
- Soccer (8-12)
- Tennis (8-12).
All six schools have had their share of successes. Some limitations do apply to entry and sometimes testing is required to gain entry. All these schools of excellence are an extra cost to the free education provided by a state school. Limited scholarships are available to some applicants.

- Petrie - orange and black
