Kelly Doran

Kelly J. Doran (born November 22, 1957) is a Minnesota businessman. He ran for Governor as a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, but ended his bid in March of 2006, stating that the campaign was too difficult for his young family. Doran's wife, Maria, is an attorney, having worked in private practice and as general counsel for the Robert Muir Company. They have four children: Ali, Evan, Kramer and Sydney. In addition to his work in business, Doran served as president of the Caring Tree Organization, which supplies back-to-school supplies to thousands of Minneseota children each year.

Doran was born in Duluth, Minnesota and he is the youngest of four children. Doran was raised by his mother in Minneapolis. He attended Southwest High School, where he played football, and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He received his Masters in Business Administration from the what is now the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota in 1982. Prior to announcing his candidacy for the 2006 election, Doran was president of the Edina based Robert Muir Company, a construction and development company. The company has developed over 3,000,000 square feet (300,000 m²) of retail space around the Twin Cities, according to their website.
