(2006) |

Kelis Was Here is the fourth album by R&B and hip-hop artist Kelis, released on August 22 2006 via LaFace Records. Originally titled The Puppeteer, the album debuted at #10 in the U.S., selling 58,000 units in the first week. The album did not peform outstandingly around the world, with 7 weeks as the longest run in a official chart (U.S. Billboard 200). According to Nielsen Soundscan as of November 2nd 2006 Kelis Was Here sold only 126,000 copies in the United States. In contrast to it being Kelis' best charting position on the Billboard 200, it is also her lowest selling album to date and is largely viewed as a commercial disappointment. Although to date the album has been certified Silver in the UK (60,000 sold). Europe is still her strongest market. The first single Bossy was a moderate hit which features rapper Too $hort. It broke into the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 to peak at 16. Her second single Blindfold Me features her husband, rapper Nas; it has been receiving radio airplay for weeks has so far peaked at #91 on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
The album has songs produced by will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas, Raphael Saadiq and Scott Storch among others, and also features duets with will.i.am and Nas, as well as Cee-Lo from the chart-topping duo Gnarls Barkley.

[edit] Chart performance
U.S. Charts Debut
This album is Kelis's first, and highest, top 10 debut of all her works, landing exactly at #10. Kelis's fourth album Kelis Was Here however didn't sell more copies in its first week than her 2003 effort Tasty. In 2003 she sold almost 100,000 in the first week, and with her latest it has gotten a 58,000 copy start. In its second week it fell to #58, then it continued to fall of the chart very quickly. After only six weeks, the album fell out of the Billboard 200.
U.K. Charts Debut
The album landed at #41 when it got dropped, missing the relevant Top 40. This way, the album didn't sell a very big amount of copies, hence why it missed the Top 75 the following week. However, by its 3rd week selling, it was certified Silver (60,000 sold) by the UK charts company.
