Keith Walwyn (17 February 1956) - (15 April 2003) was a football player born in Jamaica, he played as a striker and is York City's second all-time topscorer.
[edit] Career
Walwyn started his career at Chesterfield FC but appeared only three times for the club, scoring two goals. He was signed by York City for £4,500 in 1981. During his time with the club Walwyn played 291 games and scored 140 goals (119 in the league), becoming the clubs second all-time topscorer behind Norman Wilkinson (who recorded 125 league goals). This tally included 25 goals in City's historic 1983-84 Division Four Championship-winning side.
Despite winning the "Clubman of the Year" trophy at York City that year, he was transferred to Blackpool F.C. for £35,000, but scored only 16 goals for the club in two years. He moved next to Carlisle United, this would prove to be his last league club; the final club he played for was non-league side Kettering Town in 1991.
[edit] Post-football
After his footballing career ended, Keith opened a sports store in the Preston area. Walwyn died at only 47 years old, in April of 2003 while undergoing a heart operation. Still widely regarded as City's greatest player of all time, his memory lives in at Bootham Crescent where one of the hospitality suites is named after him.
