Keiffer J. Mitchell Jr.

Keiffer Jackson Mitchell, Jr. is a third term Baltimore City Councilman representing the city's 11th councilmanic district. He is a grandson of Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. who was a civil rights leader and director of the Washington Bureau of the NAACP. His great-uncle is former Congressman Parren Mitchell.
Keiffer was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 28, 1967, to Dr. and Mrs. Keiffer J. Mitchell, Sr. Growing up in the Mitchell family he dedicated himself at a young age to civil rights and public service in general.
Keiffer is a graduate of Boys Latin School,1986, Emory University, 1990 and The District of Columbia School of Law, 1994.
Councilman Mitchell was elected to his first term in 1995 and subsequently re-elected in 1999 and 2004. He is a member of Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee representing the 44th District and currently serves as 2nd Vice-Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party.
On the council he has served on the following committees: Taxation and Finance, Judiciary and Legislative Investigations and Education, Housing, Health, and Human Services. Keiffer served as a delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention.
In 2005, Keiffer stood up against the controversial Baltimore Convention Center Hotel Project.

After Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley was elected Governor of Maryland in 2006, it has become widely speculated that Councilman Mitchell will run for Mayor in 2007, when the Mayor's term, being filled out by Council President Sheila Dixon is up.
