KECR
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KECR or Family Radio is the San Diego Family Radio affiliate. It has been on the AM band since the mid-1990s. It used to belong on the FM band with the KECR call letters where Channel 933 calls home on the FM band. Family Radio is a worldwide Christian ministry that broadcasts via AM or FM radio and a shortwave TV station in Okeechobee, Florida. Family Radio also broadcasts overseas in many European, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries.
During the October 2003 Cedar Fires, part of KECR's transmitter site was destroyed by flames. Luckily, only one antenna (out of a total of four antennas) and an 'electrical doghouse' were burnt beyond survival.
In the 1960s the station was a Top 40 rocker known as KDEO, with the moniker "Radio Kay-dee-oh."
In the mid 1970s the station was KMJC-AM Magic 91 based out of El Cajon playing Top 40. In 1980 KMJC-AM Magic 91 converted to Christian programming and changed their tag to KMJC King Majesty Jesus Christ. In the mid 1990s KECR-FM and KMJC-AM began simulcasting.
