Kaunas Priest Seminary

Kaunas Priest Seminary is the biggest priest seminary in Lithuania. It was founded after 1863 uprising as Samogitian diocese, Bishop of Samogitia and all related institutions 1864 were moved from Varniai to Kaunas.

Form 1870 on it was limited capacity, because Russian empire did not allow to enter new students 1863-1870. For some time as here was teaching Antanas Baranauskas, who started teaching in Lithuanian language. From 1909, as the rector of seminary was appointed Jonas Mačiulis-Maironis, the seminary was completely Lithuanian.
During years of WWI seminary was moved to Vašuokėnai estate near Troškūnai, and the building was converted to a military hospital.

Present rector of seminary is Aurelijus Žukauskas. As for year 2006 all the faculties of seminary has 65 students.
