Kathy Barnes

Kathy Barnes is a character in the long-running channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks.

In her youth Kathy was an accomplished swimmer but was forced to abandon her swimming career after becoming pregnant at the age of 16. Consequently when her own daughter Sarah took up swimming Kathy became obessessed with her daughter’s success. Consequently when Sarah sought a relationship with Rhys Ashworth, Kathy became convinced that the relationship would thrawt her prospects. She therefore seduced Rhys and blackmailed him into ending the relationship.

For reasons that are unclear Kathy gained nine years in the space of a year (see Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome). At her 40th birthday party her sexual encounter with Rhys surfaced causing her husband Mike to evict her from the family home. Unable to find alternative accommodation she returned to the family home but Mike was unhappy and moved out taking their daughters with them. Eventually they reconcilled for the sake of the children.

Kathy is played Sarah Jane Buckley.
