Kathleen York (aka Bird York) is an EMI recording artist singer-songwriter, and Academy Award nominated songwriter as well as an actor. Her song, "In the Deep", which appears on her album Wicked Little High',' was written for the 2006 Oscar Winning Film Crash and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song. On March 5, 2006, York performed the song live at the 78th Academy Awards ceremony. Her songs have also appeared in Nip/Tuck, CSI: NY, House "In Justice" and Everwood, as well as many other film and television projects including all the songs for the 2001 season of the Paul Haggis CBS series Family Law. As an actor, York has starred in numerous film and television projects . Credits include films with Tom Waits, Northern Lights (with Diane Keaton), Crash, and starring roles in indie films Sister Island, The Big Day and Footsteps. She appeared in the second season of Curb Your Enthusiasm', recurred for all seven years of the multi Emmy Award winning series The West Wing and starred as Naomi Judd in the four hour NBC mini series about the country singer's life. She is soon to be heard, (she wrote and performed three of the film's songs), and seen in the Warner Bro release SUBLIME opposite Tom Cavanaugh. She also will be recurring this season (2006-2007) on ABC's Desperate Housewives as the mysterious redhead "Monique". Bird is currently writing her next record and has just completed working on the score of the documentary "Incest: A Family Tragedy".

After years in the indie circuit as a much respected and acclaimed artist, York finally saw global recognition come with her Academy Award performance. The nominated track, "In the Deep", debuted #64 on the Billboard chart.

York is currently signed to EMI.

She is also a screenwriter and has written scripts for John Wells/Warner Brothers as well as Sony Television.
