Katherine VanderKaay

Katherine VanderKaay (Katie VanderKaay) is the author of Girls Interrupted: Profiles of Female Palestinian Suicide Bombers, and a contributing author to "Terror in the Holy Land," a highly-acclaimed new work on the subject the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Her work has been cited by the US State Department, and she was a guest presenter at the 2005 National Convention of the American Psychological Association. One of the earliest writers to pursue an understanding of this aspect of terrorism, Ms. VanderKaay completed her undergraduate thesis on the Taliban and the role of women in Islamic countries prior to 9/11.
VanderKaay graduated from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia in 2001, with a degree in Women's Studies and focus on the Middle East, and attended Reid Hall in Paris, France. She completed her Master's Degree at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in 2006, and is currently pursuing her PhD in International Relations at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. During college, she interned in the office of Senator Tom Daschle, and The Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation. She is a resident of Dayton, Ohio and was born February 11, 1979 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Miss VanderKaay is the daughter of Jane Mitakides, Democratic candidate for congress from Ohio in 2004.
