Katbite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Katbite is a 3 piece band from The Hague, The Netherlands. Katbite was founded in 2001, just a few months after Kat Leese emigrated to Holland in 2000. The songs are all(except one, Dirty Creature, by Split Enz.) written by Kat, so the band has a strong singer-songwriter aspect, although there are injections of many elements in the arrangements, from jazz to punk, funk and rock, which makes the music in many means danceable. The songs are mainly about travelling and the deeper meanings of existance and life.
Katbite is formed by Kat (short of Katherine) Leese, Dominic Bellekom and Jeroen van der Zeeuw. The band is based in The Hague, although Dominic lives in Wateringen and Jeroen lives in Piershil (Zuid Holland). Normally, this is also the setting how the band performs on stage. Kat Leese on guitar and vocals, Dominic Bellekom on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Jeroen van der Zeeuw on drums. Occasionally, Katbite performs with guest artists. They have performed with a variation of artists in the past years, but names as Boris van der Lek and Tom Spaapen keep showing up at some of their gigs.
Since 2001, the band has performed more than 200 gigs, and in addition to playing all over Holland, they have also performed in England, Scotland, Germany, and executed a 5 week, 18 date tour of New Zealand at the start of 2005 which included a television appearance. Other highlights include performing live on 3FM, one of the Holland’s largest radio stations, making it into the competition to play at Parkpop, and performing at the Haags Pop Podium LIVE and Landwegikeit festivals. After bringing out several demos, Katbite released their (official) debut album, “Vacation” in August 2005 In early 2006 they started with their second album, Sweet Rebellion, which is planned to be released by the end of 2006.
