Kat Ricker

Kat Ricker is a creative writer, journalist, and fitness personality.
Her writing has been published across America and abroad, earning awards for journalism, poetry and short stories. She holds a master's degree in professional writing from Slippery Rock University.
Kat is the author of Something Familiar (Trillium Press, October 2006), a collection of her narrative poems and shorts on transcendent moments in everyday lives.
While her writing is diverse (UFO magazine, Lapidary Journal, ORE), she is most widely recognized for her contributions in bodybuilding, weightlifting and fitness. Her articles have appeared in such industry standards as Muscle & Fitness, Muscle & Fitness Hers, Oxygen, Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness, Men’s Exercise, Exercise for Men Only, Fitness & Physique, Best Body, Fitness Management and International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship. She has worked as a personal trainer and competed in amateur bodybuilding.
Kat has worked as a reporter for several newspapers, covering government, crime, natural resources and more. Her profile on a domestic abuse surivor was awarded Best Feature Story by the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association.
Kat has also devoted energies to agriculture--writing for ag trade magazines, working as a reporter for Capital Press (Salem, OR), managing ag outreach at the state level in government, and performing manual labor in farms and nurseries.
Her formative years were largely devoted to community theater. She attended Youngstown State University on a theater scholarship and earned a B.A. in both theater and English.
