[edit] Biography
Phrases like "Mr Excitement", "People's Champion", "Mr Nice Guy" and "The Flash" spring to mind the first time one comes face-to-face with Kash Gill. And none of them are made up - not even remotely. Standing tall at 6 ft 2 inches, thirty-three year old Gill has been described as the UK's most prolific kickboxer, with an impressive line-up of British, European and World titles under his very black belt.
All world champions need to start somewhere. Allegedly, 14-year old Kash simply sauntered into retired champ Howard Brown's kickboxing class in 1980 because he fancied 'having a go' at the sport. But like the famed Oliver Twist, he just kept going back for more. The rest, as they say, is history...
Gill's natural speed and athletic ability soon earned him the nickname "The Flash"; a name which aptly stuck for the rest of his fighting career. By 1984, having earned his black belt, Gill at the tender age of 18, had entered and won his first competition in a three-round contest in full-contact karate. A champion was in the making... and Mr Excitement was born.
The list of world titles that Kash picked up and added to his collection over the next few years is impressive - the gold medal in the PKA World Amateur Championships in St Nazaire, the light-middleweight gold medal in the European Amateur Championships in Paris, the light-middleweight title in the British professional PKA Championship, the WKA Professional European kickboxing title in Palermo, Italy...
Having created not just ripples, but waves of excitement in the world of kickboxing, Kash was now widely acknowledged as a world class Thaiboxer. He scaled new heights in his career, collecting his first Professional world title, the WKA Junior Middleweight in 1991. In the same year Kash decided to enter the World full contact Karate championships - need you ask how he fared? Yeah, you guessed it, he won that too. In the two consecutive years, he went on to win the WKA World Middleweight kickboxing title and the ISKA World Light Middleweight title. (Phew!)
How DOES he do it? Well, world championships don't grow on trees; they're not easy pickings. Kash follows a very strict training routine. Six weeks before a major fight, he cuts off the temptation to eat junk food and often finishes off the day with a ten-mile run! Hmmm...
Despite his success in the ring, Mr. Gill still has his feet firmly planted on the ground. The man behind the world-champion is a very likeable one and makes a sensational teacher. That's why the crowds flock to his kickboxing classes. So, if you fancy a go...
