The district of Kava-Vubu in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo lies at the center of the city. The area has been developing since around 1940 and, along with Kalamu (Kinshasa), is the historical african heart of the city. The district is named the first president of the Congo after independence, Joseph Kasa-Vubu.
